Drømmer is a subtle and layered coming-of-age drama in which director Dag Johan Haugerud poetically intertwines imagination and memory. With a dreamy visual style, a restrained narrative approach, and sensitivity to the smallest emotional shifts, Haugerud reveals how desire, shame, and confusion transcend generations.

When Johanne writes down her intense infatuation with her French teacher, both her mother and grandmother end up reading these personal notes. Shocked by what they discover, they are at the same time struck by Johanne’s remarkable writing talent. As the two women reflect on their own first loves and missed chances in life, the question remains: what really happened between the 17-year-old diarist and her teacher?

Drømmer premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where it won both the Golden Bear and the International Critics’ Prize (FIPRESCI Award).
