Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind tells the touching and tragic love story of Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet). When Joel discovers that his ex-girlfriend has erased all memories of their time together, he decides to undergo the same procedure. Too late, he realizes he does not want to lose his beautiful memories after all, and tries to hide them deep within his mind.

The title is taken from the poem Eloisa to Abelard by Alexander Pope (1688–1744), about the tragic love story of Héloïse and Peter Abelard, in which only oblivion offers the heroine comfort. Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep) translates Charlie Kaufman’s powerful screenplay into a dreamlike film. Kaufman won an Academy Award for the screenplay, while Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress.
