Description
A heatwave in Amsterdam. A single mother fighting for her children with courage, creativity, and humor. Treat Her Like A Lady is an energetic and colorful film by Dutch-Chilean director and screenwriter Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito, starring Nienke Plas in the lead role.
Single mother Sandra (Nienke Plas) lives with her daughters Harrie and Stella in Amsterdam and struggles to make ends meet. As unpaid bills continue to pile up and she is accused of fraud, Sandra must pull out all the stops to keep her children from being taken away by social services. This battle against the system seems like an impossible task, but Sandra refuses to be beaten. Ever optimistic, she is determined to give her daughters the summer of their lives.
Treat Her Like A Lady premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and offers a humorous critique of a failing social security system. In a film full of bright colors and an atmospheric soundtrack, Nienke Plas plays a strong and charismatic mother reminiscent of the powerful female characters in the films of Pedro Almodóvar.
