Trafic (4K Restoration)

Although Jacques Tati (1907–1982) made only six feature films, he is considered one of the most important and innovative post-war filmmakers. As director, writer, producer, and leading actor, he created a timeless body of work filled with affectionate details, impeccable timing, and subtle, silent humour.

From Thursday 30 July, you can enjoy six weeks dedicated to the timeless work of this unique filmmaker. All six of his feature films will be shown on the big screen in beautifully restored versions.

Trafic follows Monsieur Hulot, a graphic designer at the company Altra, who has designed an experimental, technologically advanced camper van. Together with the vehicle, he travels along the motorways of France and Belgium towards the Amsterdam Motor Show, where the model is to be presented to the public and potential buyers. What should have been a simple business trip soon turns into a series of mishaps: mechanical failures, technical problems, a customs inspection, and an accident lead to constant delays…

The film has also been restored in 4K, allowing the sharpness of the modern infrastructure, the vehicles, and the visual details of Tati’s carefully choreographed chaos to shine once again. Trafic is a quintessential Jacques Tati film, in which humour emerges from delays, misunderstandings, and the fragile illusion of efficiency in a hyper-motorised world.
