Description

Keeping schools open in Ukraine is an attempt to preserve part of normal life from before the war. Without interviews or reenactments, Timestamp offers an intimate and direct look into the daily lives of students and teachers, both on the front lines and in safer areas. The film observes how schools operate, both physically and online, and how teaching continues amid air raid sirens, shelters, and uncertainty. By following students and teachers over the course of a year, Timestamp shows how a society under extreme pressure tries to hold on to humanity, structure, and hope. The war is felt everywhere, even when it often remains out of sight: the light still shines, lessons continue, but the threat is constantly present. The film highlights the resilience, courage, and dedication of people who, in the midst of war, are trying to give their children a future.

Timestamp is directed by Kateryna Gornostai (Stop-Zemlia). The film premiered earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Bear, and was selected for Film Fest Ghent (Grand Prix for Best Film nomination) and IDFA.
