Description
A woman achieves something extraordinary; a man takes the credit. This docu-fiction reveals the true story of Eileen Gray, architect of the modernist masterpiece E.1027 on the French Riviera.
Using beautiful archival footage and meticulously reconstructed scenes, director Beatrice Minger brings this dramatic story to life. She shows how Le Corbusier — a friend of Gray’s partner Jean Badovici — painted murals inside the house without permission and claimed authorship of the design. With this film, Gray’s rightful place in architectural history is restored.
The film will be introduced by a lecture by Lorien Beijaert. Lorien is an architect and co-founder of Studio L A, together with Arna Mačkić. The studio primarily focuses on public architecture and investigates the contribution architecture can make to major societal themes. Studio L A works from the existing context: understanding the past, present and future of a place, as well as the experiences and needs of current communities and future users, is central to their practice. Their work aims to shape a more equitable society, with encounter and dialogue at its core.
