Description
A love story so improbably romantic and moving that it is still taught in Swedish primary schools. In 1975, a young Indian man named PK falls in love with Lotta, a Swedish woman. When she returns home, he sets off on a second-hand bicycle, with barely any money in his pocket, on a journey of more than 10,000 kilometres to find her again.
What follows is a breathtaking journey through unfamiliar countries, over mountain passes and across endless landscapes, relying throughout on the help of people he meets along the way.
PK is a Dalit, a so-called “untouchable”, born at the bottom of India’s caste system and destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. At the same time, an astrologer makes a remarkable, almost impossible prediction at his birth about his future beloved. His meeting with Lotta in New Delhi seems to fulfil the prophecy. But when she fails to keep her promise to visit him again, that certainty is thrown into question.
Oscar-winning director Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helmets) brings this extraordinary true story to life by retracing the journey with PK and a young actor who portrays him. Through reenactments, interviews and encounters along the way, he connects past and present in a compelling story about love, humanity and perseverance.
The Cycle of Love is one of those rare stories that you can hardly believe really happened. A heartwarming documentary that leaves you with a renewed faith in love — and in humanity.
