As an adult deaf woman, Ángela has learned to navigate the complex world of the hearing. But when she and her hearing partner Héctor are expecting their first child, everything becomes uncertain. Will their daughter be born deaf in a world where deaf people are never fully understood? In the first months of their baby’s life—when it is not yet clear whether she is deaf—the couple faces new insecurities, miscommunications, and the challenges of their fresh role as parents. Director Eva Libertad drew inspiration for the screenplay from her sister, who is also deaf and once faced the same desire for motherhood. Sorda has won several awards, including the Audience Award in the Panorama section of the Berlinale.
