Music Film Festival: One To One: John and Yoko
Documentary One To One: John and Yoko, based on the benefit concert where Lennon and Ono performed in New York in 1972.
Description
The film One to One: John and Yoko, which will be shown on Saturday at the Music Film Festival, is set in the vibrant New York of the early 1970s. John Lennon and his wife, the Japanese artist Yoko Ono, settled there shortly after their arrival in the US. What follows is an intimate and politically charged journey through a year and a half of their lives. Full of artistic passion and social commitment.
The focus is on the legendary One to One Benefit Concert from 1972 – Lennon’s only sold-out live concert after The Beatles. With songs such as Imagine, Give Peace a Chance and Come Together. The concert in Madison Square Garden raised more than 1.5 million dollars for children with special needs. The concert was released on VHS in 1986 with bad sound. That footage has been completely restored for this film.
But the film offers much more. With rare home videos, never-before-seen documents and recorded phone conversations, the documentary immerses you in the world of the famous couple.
We see how they were influenced by American television, how the Vietnam War affected them, and how their love and activism went hand in hand.
One to One: John and Yoko is an ode to their collaboration, their music and their mission. For music lovers, Lennon fans and anyone interested in political activism: this is a film you don’t want to miss.
