Mother

Calcutta, India, 1948. Mother Superior Teresa anxiously awaits a letter from the Vatican that will finally grant her permission to establish her own order. A calling she believes she has received from God, but also a radical desire to create a sisterhood. Tireless and ambitious, Teresa refuses to be deterred and prepares everything for her possible departure. But when her intended successor confides a deep secret in her, both Teresa’s mission and their friendship are put to the test.

A decisive week in the life of Mother Teresa before she became world-famous: Mother is a gripping character study of the woman behind the myth. Director Teona Strugar Mitevska offers a bold and human portrait of this iconic figure, portraying her as a driven woman of flesh and blood who struggles with power and her ideals.
