Description
Director Paolo Sorrentino (La grande bellezza, Youth) returns with his new, breathtaking film La Grazia, once again featuring a powerful leading role for Toni Servillo. He plays an Italian President in his final term, faced with several crucial decisions while also coming to terms with the loss of his wife.
President Mariano De Santis (Toni Servillo) is nearing the end of his mandate. In the echoing halls of the presidential palace, he leads a solitary existence, mourning his wife’s death. Before returning to ordinary life, De Santis must decide on two major issues still before him: clemency requests from controversial prisoners and a euthanasia bill. His moral objections clash with human desires. What will be his legacy to his beloved Italy?
Sorrentino captures his story in stunning imagery and is unafraid, at times, to surrender to the power of music—much like his protagonist. La Grazia opened the Venice Film Festival, where Toni Servillo received the award for Best Actor.
