The movie
Juste une illusion
Juste une illusion is a heartwarming comedy that brings the 1980s back to life through nostalgia and a teenager falling in love. Directors Nakache and Toledano return with a feel-good film that, as in The Intouchables and The Specials, does not shy away from social issues, but above all shows how hilarious everyday life can be.
Description
Juste une illusion is a heartwarming comedy that brings the 1980s back to life through nostalgia and a teenager falling in love. Directors Nakache and Toledano return with a feel-good film that, as in The Intouchables and The Specials, does not shy away from social issues, but above all shows how hilarious everyday life can be.
It is 1985. The Cure and Imagination are battling it out in the charts, while Kohl and Mitterrand dominate the world stage. Almost thirteen-year-old Vincent grows up in a Parisian suburb, where not only the global economy but also his family is in crisis. His father Yves (Louis Garrel) has lost his job but cannot bring himself to tell anyone. His mother Sandrine (Camille Cottin), after years as a secretary, longs for a more challenging career. The tensions regularly erupt into heated arguments. As Vincent tries to find his place in a family that is slowly falling apart, he experiences his first great love and takes his first steps towards adulthood.
Nakache and Toledano pay cinematic tribute to the music, fashion and radio games of the 1980s, but above all tell a deeply personal story that transcends time: a teenager discovering himself, and parents rediscovering each other.
