The movie
Grensgebied
Our landscape is full of boundaries. Dunes separate fresh water from salt, and rivers cut gracefully across provinces. Dams draw lines between land and water, while dikes divide willow groves from polders.
Description
Our landscape is full of boundaries. Dunes separate fresh water from salt, and rivers cut gracefully across provinces. Dams draw lines between land and water, while dikes divide willow groves from polders. Within this space, miles of ditches, hedges, fences, roads, and waterways serve as boundaries, separating living from working, and agriculture from nature.
The lines in the landscape reflect the way we think. In Grensgebied, filmmaker Rik van der Linden embarks on a poetic and philosophical journey. Together with a variety of the landscape’s inhabitants, both human and more-than-human, he explores the beauty, value, and significance of soft boundaries.
