Description

Father Mother Sister Brother is the latest film from Jim Jarmusch (Paterson, Only Lovers Left Alive), in which the subtle nuances of family relationships and generations are explored through a triptych of comedic, heartwarming, and sometimes poignant moments. In the first story, brother and sister Jeff and Emily visit their father in the American countryside, where loving attempts at closeness clash with old habits and hidden character traits. In Dublin, Timothea and Lilith visit their mother, where polite façades and small secrets speak as loudly as the words they exchange. And in Paris, the American twins Skye and Billy explore their deceased parents’ apartment, discovering who their parents really were—and how little one sometimes truly knows about the people they love.

Jarmusch weaves his signature melancholic humor, sharp observations, and attention to small details throughout these three stories, giving even silences and everyday moments a rich emotional weight. Father Mother Sister Brother feels both familiar and fresh—a charming and contemplative journey into the lives of others.

The film was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. It stars Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Vicky Krieps, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore, and Luka Sabbat.
