Des preuves d’amour

Céline is looking forward to the arrival of her first child. The only thing is, she is not the one who is pregnant; her wife Nadia will give birth to their daughter in three months. But in order to be legally recognised as the child’s mother, Céline must adopt her own daughter and prove that she deserves a place in her child’s life. As part of this process, she is asked to collect fifteen statements confirming that she will be a good mother. Under the watchful eyes of friends, family, and the law, she searches for her place as a parent.

Des preuves d’amour is a touching, yet light-hearted and humorous portrait of queer parenthood and the obstacles that come with it. Based on director Alice Douard’s own experiences, the film offers a powerful perspective on the non-pregnant partner during the final stage of pregnancy. The film had its world premiere in the Semaine de la Critique section at the Cannes Film Festival and was subsequently screened at, among others, Film by the Sea and the Roze Filmdagen, where it won the Audience Award.
