Description
Didi and Amy share an apartment and work together in a run-down massage parlor in Queens. Their close friendship helps them endure everyday life in the salon and its dreadful clientele.
Didi begins a relationship with Cheung (Lee Kang-sheng), a charming but married worker whose family lives in Taiwan. During the Chinese New Year celebration, a tragic and violent incident occurs that sets the relationship between Didi, Amy, and Cheung on a different course. Will the three of them be able to continue their modest yet familiar existence?
The feature debut by Constance Tsang is an intelligent, lived-in story about migrant workers in the metropolis of New York; their lives are harsh, but humor and vitality keep Didi, Amy, and Cheung going. At the same time, Blue Sun Palace is also a film about New York as a place of magic—the city beyond the Statue of Liberty that promises everyone a better life.
Blue Sun Palace premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to screen at around thirty festivals, where the director and cast received multiple nominations and awards, including Best Actor (Lee Kang-sheng) and Best Actress (Ke-Xi Wu and Haipeng Xu).
