Description

A raw and intense mosaic narrative about love, loss and violence in Mexico City. The film begins with a car crash and, from there, tells the stories of the young men who cause the accident, the woman who is hit, and an outsider who witnesses it. With dynamic camerawork and an exhilarating soundtrack, Amores Perros is a groundbreaking film that, more than twenty-five years later, has become a modern classic.

Amores Perros marked director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s international breakthrough and the beginning of a body of work in which he repeatedly explores human vulnerability under extreme circumstances. With Birdman, he reached a new high point: the film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. A year later, Iñárritu again won the Academy Award for Best Director, this time for The Revenant, a gripping survival story that firmly established him as one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of his generation.

Before the screening of Amores Perros, film journalist Noa Johannes shares her perspective on this four-time Academy Award-winning film, placing this modern classic in a broader cinematic context.
