Description

These screenings are with English subtitles

Everyone can remember that one summer at 14 or 15 years old when, while hanging around on vacation with older siblings or cousins and feeling a newfound freedom, things began to change. Such is the case for Luna (Ariana Chaves Gavilán), 14, who accompanies her 17-year-old sister, Marina (Cala Rossel Campos) on a trip from their Costa Rican home to Panama City ostensibly to meet up with their long-estranged father. But debuting director Kattia G. Zúñiga is not really interested in that. Instead, she emphasizes the freedom to explore desires, develop new friendships, and find possible lovers that sets the sisters on a journey toward emancipation. The film captured the Best Iberoamerican Film award at the Málaga Spanish Film Festival.

‘Charming… The summertime ambience in middle-class Panama – the swaying palms, the swimming pool, the constant birdsong, the sunlight, shadow and fluttering curtains in pastel bedrooms – are all effectively rendered.’—Jonathan Holland, Screen
