Description

Renoir is a compelling drama by Japanese director Chie Hayakawa, set in Tokyo in 1987. The story follows 11-year-old Fuki, a sensitive and imaginative girl whose summer is shaped by her father’s serious illness and the emotional absence of her hard-working mother. Amid a world that feels increasingly out of reach, Fuki finds comfort and meaning in her rich imagination, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy begin to blur.

Renoir is a subtle and moving portrait of growing up, loss, and the power of imagination. The film made a strong impression at leading international film festivals, where it was praised and awarded for its refined direction and warm, humane perspective.
