Description

In many countries, child marriages remain a harsh reality. This film presents a poignant yet hopeful portrayal of the fight against child marriage. Nawi was the big winner at our own 013 International Film Festival and the official Kenyan submission for the 2025 Oscars.

Set in the remote, arid landscapes of Turkana, Kenya, the film tells the true story of 13-year-old Nawi, who discovers that her father intends to marry her off in exchange for livestock. Paralyzed by tradition but determined to follow her own path, Nawi manages to escape on her wedding night. She flees, pursued by her family, to pursue her dream: attending secondary school. Her courageous struggle against cultural norms stands as a powerful symbol of hope.
