Description
Enzo is a French coming-of-age film in which youth, desire, and class intersect. Much to the surprise of his affluent family, sixteen-year-old Enzo (a breakout performance by newcomer Eloy Pohu) opts not for university, but for a masonry apprenticeship. He’s not particularly good at it, but he feels far more at home on the construction site than in the upscale villa where he was raised. When his charismatic colleague Vlad introduces him to this new world, Enzo begins to see it as more meaningful than the privileged life he comes from—leading to rising tensions at home. He increasingly feels the pressure to live up to the expectations of his parents (Élodie Bouchez and Pierfrancesco Favino).
Enzo opened the Quinzaine des Cinéastes at the Cannes Film Festival. The screenplay was co-written by Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo, and it became Cantet’s final film before his passing.
