Holofiction (NL)

Our understanding of the Holocaust has been shaped to a large extent by the many fiction films made about it. The third title announced for 013IFF is Holofiction, a unique essay film composed of thousands of clips from these films. By re-editing this material into a new cinematic narrative, the film reveals recurring patterns in the way the Holocaust has been represented on screen. Holofiction explores how these images have evolved over time and how they continue to shape the way we remember and understand this history.

Holofiction had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it attracted considerable attention as a bold and innovative cinematic reflection. International film critics praised its inventive editing and the way it gives familiar images new meaning and resonance.

On Tuesday, 21 October, director Michal Kosakowski will travel to Tilburg for 013IFF. Following the screening, he will join Filmkrant journalist Hugo Emmerzael for an in-depth conversation about the making of Holofiction, the power of cinematic images, and the creative choices behind this remarkable essay film.
