Un Anno di Scuola
Award-winning Italian drama from Venice about a Swedish schoolgirl who has just moved to the Italian coastal city of Trieste and finds herself at a technical secondary school in a class full of boys.
Description
Trieste, summer 2007. Self-assured Swede Fredrika has just moved to the Italian coastal city and finds herself at a technical secondary school in a class full of boys. She immediately becomes the centre of attention, and not only because of her intelligence and knowledge. Gradually, she forms a close friendship with an inseparable trio: the fascinating and modest Antero, the extroverted Casanova Pasini, and the kind and protective Mitis. Together, they explore the streets of Trieste, party, think about the future, share secrets and discover new feelings. Their final year of school will leave a lasting mark on all four of them.
Un anno di scuola is based on a 1929 novel, yet its themes of adaptation and shifting relationships remain remarkably relevant today. The four young actors, all with little or no previous acting experience, give impressive performances. Giacomo Covi was awarded Best Actor in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival for his performance. For director Laura Samani, this is her second feature, following her acclaimed debut, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
