Primavera
The Italian period drama Primavera tells the story of two searching souls brought together: Cecilia, a young and gifted violinist and orphan in search of her own identity, and composer Antonio Vivaldi, a man driven by his creativity and inspired by Cecilia's extraordinary talent.
Description
Venice, 18th century. Twenty-year-old Cecilia (Tecla Insolia) is a gifted violinist who has spent most of her life at the Ospedale della Pietà , an orphanage renowned for its music. Art has broadened her horizons, but not her freedom: the orphanage remains the only place where she is allowed to perform, hidden behind a screen from the wealthy patrons in the audience. Marriage seems to be her only possible escape.
Cecilia's life changes when a new violin teacher offers her a glimpse of a different future. His name is Antonio Vivaldi (Michele Riondino). Under his guidance, she finds the courage to break free and pursue her own musical ambitions.
Primavera is based on the novel by Tiziano Scarpa and marks the feature film debut of opera director Damiano Michieletto. The film was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and won three David di Donatello Awards for Best Original Score, Best Sound, and Best Costume Design.
