The Substance is the new film by Coralie Fargeat, featuring a daring comeback performance by Demi Moore. It is a merciless body horror satire about the impossible beauty standards of the film and fashion industries, and how they destroy women both literally and figuratively.

The shock film was the talk of the town at the Cannes Film Festival. Journalists, film programmers, and film lovers agreed on one thing: The Substance is a bold and unique film that dares to push boundaries in a thrilling way. The sensation won the Best Screenplay award in Cannes and was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Original Screenplay.

Elizabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) was once a celebrity but is now fading into obscurity.
