Description
The Unseen offers a compelling insight into the lives of African migrants in Southern Italy and exposes the systems they become trapped in: from exploitation in the agricultural sector to bureaucratic uncertainty and social exclusion. The film shows how personal stories are closely intertwined with the structures that shape their daily lives.
Breda-based Milou Rientjens combines her background in International Development Studies with a passion for vulnerable communities. She conducted research into the exploitation of African migrant workers in Italy, which led to her debut documentary The Unseen. In addition to her work as a team leader at the Dutch Refugee Council, she is a co-founder of the Nuru Foundation Tanzania.
