The movie
A Family
Trapped in the turmoil of their parents’ divorce, Nina and Eli retreat into their own worlds, torn between loyalty, anger, and the desire to be seen. From two mirroring perspectives, a single story unfolds—showing how love can break, and still find its way home.
Description
Teenagers Eli and Nina each try in their own way to stay afloat when their parents’ marriage (played by Carice van Houten and Pieter Embrechts) ends in a bitter divorce. Told from the children’s perspective, A Family is a unique family drama.
Eli (14) and Nina (16) seem to lead carefree lives at first. Eli is part of the selection for his swim team, and Nina is in love with her girlfriend Steffie. But when Maria and Jacob separate, the siblings find themselves caught between their parents. In the battle over shared custody and the constant arguments surrounding it, Eli and Nina are forced to make choices they don’t want to make.
Each dealing with their own grief, they drift further and further apart—until they realize that they are both searching for the same things: love, recognition, and comfort.
