Sinners
Director Ryan Coogler presents a new take on fear in Sinners. To escape their troubled lives, two twin brothers (Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown to start over. But there, an even greater evil is waiting for them. “When you dance with the devil, one day he’ll follow you home.”
Description
Sinners is set in the sweltering American South, 1932. Twin brothers Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore return to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, after a period in Chicago where they made their money on the margins of society. With those earnings, they want to start something new: a juke joint, deep in the Delta, on the grounds of an abandoned sawmill.
As they prepare for a grand opening celebration, they attract a colorful procession of people—musicians, family members, lost loves, and old acquaintances. The atmosphere crackles with energy, the longing for freedom and music palpable in every scene. But beneath the surface, tensions simmer: over class, race, faith, power, and guilt. And not everything that appears that night is of this world.
What begins as an evening of music and community turns into an explosive confrontation with the past—and with forces beyond anyone’s control.
Winner of four Oscars | Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Cinematography.
