Description
The documentary Rumah Kita offers an intimate and powerful portrait of a nursing home in Wageningen, specially designed for people with an Indo-Dutch and Moluccan background. Through personal conversations with residents, their children, and care workers, the film paints a warm yet confronting picture of what it means to grow old with a past marked by migration, colonization, and loss.
Between 1945 and 1968, over 300,000 people from the former Dutch East Indies came to the Netherlands, often under difficult circumstances. Now, in old age, many of them live in care institutions like Rumah Kita (“Our Home”). Director Jeremy Flohr explores with them how healthcare and well-being can better align with their cultural background and needs.
